Darnold wasn’t free, but the potential payoff was worth it. Entering his fourth NFL season, Carolina can utilize Darnold’s 5th-year option, giving them a two-year window to figure out his future with the organization.
Read MoreThe crew discusses Carolina's chances of getting a quarterback with our rival, the Atlanta Falcons, with the power to undermine our quest for a QB1. The fellas talk about the dept of the team, the prospects of winning, and how Micah Simon is really fast and now a Panther.
Read MorePhenom tight-end prospect, Kyle Pitts, had an impressive pro day highlighted by a 4.44/40-yard dash. His speed and size drew goo-goo eyes from around the NFL world, most notably Panthers coach Matt Rhule and former Panthers tight end Greg Olsen. As Olsen was coronating Pitts as the next star tight end, Rhule was scheduling meetings with the Florida prospect.
Read MoreThe Panthers picked up former BYU receiver, Micah Simon, today. Simon went undrafted last season, partly in part of him being unable to hold a Pro Day because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Perhaps best known for a monster game against Tennessee in 2019, Simon worked out at this year’s BYU Pro Day, where most of the spotlight was on quarterback Zach Wilson. The 6-1 almost 200-pound receiver ran a 4.34/40-yard dash. He may as well have run right into the Panthers’ receiver room because the team promptly offered Simon a contract.
Read MoreThe San Francisco 49ers aggressive trade to obtain the 3rd overall pick of the draft and their decision to send only Assistant GM Adam Peters, while John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan attend Mac Jones Pro Day raised eyebrows. The Panthers, however, are sending Scott Fitterer, Matt Rhule, and Pat Stewart to see Fields throw, likely in an effort to see if he were to fall past the 4th pick if they should trade up for the former Buckeye quarterback, or if lucky, see if he falls to the Panthers at #8.
Heading into the 2020 season, Justin Fields was the consensus #2 quarterback behind Trevor Lawrence. Despite finishing the season strongly, Fields up and down start allowed Zach Wilson to steal the projected number two quarterback spot. Trey Lance has also been a hot name, and Fields has sort of slipped out of favor among the talking draft heads even behind the almost unknown NDSU product. I’d be more surprised if Fields slipped to #8, however than if the 49ers selected him at the 3rds spot. Some have suggested that their absence of Lynch and Shanahan at Fields’s Pro Day is an effort to disguise their interest. Either way, Carolina’s head brass will be there, and their interest will also be there on draft night.

Read MoreDavis’s numbers weren’t extraordinary, but they were impressive. For a guy who bounced around the league hoping for an opportunity, he became a bright spot on an offense that centered around Christian McCaffrey. I mean with a star like that, the dropoff has to be significant. Davis surely wasn’t CMC, but he wasn’t trying to be. He was Mike Davis, and now that punishing back has signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Panthers’ offensive line has been a mess for a long time. It’s what lost a Super Bowl, derailed Cam Newton’s career, and has driven us mad for years. The Panthers simply haven’t invested enough in protecting the quarterback!
