Panthers Vetting Kyle Pitts Carefully Heading into NFL Draft

Phenom tight-end prospect, Kyle Pitts, had an impressive pro day highlighted by a 4.44/40-yard dash. His speed and size drew goo-goo eyes from around the NFL world, most notably Panthers coach Matt Rhule and former Panthers tight end Greg Olsen. As Olsen was coronating Pitts as the next star tight end, Rhule was scheduling meetings with the Florida prospect.

Carolina will have a real opportunity to land Pitts at 8, especially if the quarterbacks fly off early like many predict. Some believe that the Atlanta Falcons at #4 or the Cincinnati Bengals at #5 could draft Pitts. He is an alluring prospect that would fastly become a big red-zone threat. As Olsen noted, the top teams have elite tight ends, and Carolina doesn’t. Rhule is more than interested in upgrading, and it is almost becoming imperative as Ian Thomas hasn’t had an impressive role in Joe Brady’s offense.

Carolina is hoping that a quarterback falls or they will likely take an offensive lineman like Penei Sewell or Rashawn Slater. Pitts is the freaky-type talent that Carolina can’t Rhule out.
