C3 Mock Draft 1.0

This pre-Free Agency Mock is a little different.  We pick for each team's first two rounds.  Then we provide insight as to why.  The reasoning could be Profootballfocus.com rankings from last year, to pending FAs to BPA.  Then a couple of guest chime in for their Panthers picks.  Enjoy..

Join the Anti Tim Hasselbeck Movement

Former NFL quarterback and now ESPN analyst has decided that the hot take will help him remain relevant. Recently, "Lil Timmy" Hasselbeck produced a tweet demeaning Carolina Panthers quarterback, describing him as a guy who plays "smaller" is. "Lil Timmy," who attempted only 177 passes and accumulated a inconsequential 1077 passing yards on a 52% completion rate, finds it rewarding to attack players who accomplished more in three games than he did in his career.

Join us in a movement to mass unfollow "Lil Timmy" Hasselbeck, an analyst whose analysis is smaller than the analysis.

If you are a follower of @tthasselbeck, go ahead and unfollow. Pass the petition on, and see this movement as one that calls for more valuable analysis from so-called sports experts.

Combin-omics: 5 Offensive Tackles to take at #25

Combin-omics: 5 Offensive Tackles to take at #25

It’s no mystery that Carolina needs offensive tackles, and with a very weak free agent class or the idea of the Panthers gambling starting money on a guy like Roos or likely a career right tackle in Brian Bulaga, just doesn’t seem like the Dave Gettleman way.

Let’s look at the draft lets see what kind of stud Gettleman will grab for us! Let me start by breaking down what each major combine drill outside the sidestep and footwork means to me and what they can show us about offensive linemen.

Panthers Part Ways with Franchise Leading Rusher DeAngelo Williams

News broke today that Carolina has in fact decided to part ways with franchise leading rusher DeAngelo Williams.   Many forecasted that Carolina would release the veteran, who's production declined significantly in 2014 in what General Manager Dave Gettleman described as a "tough season."  Tonight, DeAngelo Williams will break the news officially on WBTV

Carolina's Real Receiver Market

Carolina's Real Receiver Market

When Dave Gettleman stated that Carolina would no longer be shopping at the Dollar Store  as they did in 2014, fans became excited about the potential prospect of landing a real free agent in Carolina.  It’s not out of the question, but the Panthers don’t have piles of money laying around by any means either; Greg Hardy is sitting on that one.  Carolina, however, isn’t in the position that they were last year--tons of roster needs with only a molehill of cash to acquire them.  This year, Carolina has a small burial mound, hopefully with all those old contracts underneath, to get some quality guys to fill some much needed holes.  Last year, Carolina was stretched thin, lots of holes with little money.  This year, they are stretched, but not as thin--some holes and some money.

How Much Gas is Left in DeAngelo Williams's tank?

How Much Gas is Left in DeAngelo Williams's tank?

It’s a cruel question to ask of anyone, let alone a franchise’s greatest all-time rusher. It’s been a question asked too often throughout DeAngelo Williams’s career, despite a 4.8 yds/carry career average and impressive 9 career TDs over 50 yds (7 rushing + 2 rec). It’s been a while, however, since D-Will took one to the house, and declined production, injury, and Jonathan Stewart’s resurgence will invariably beg the question once again as Williams is scheduled to earn 6 million dollars in 2015.

Upgrading Carolina's Left Tackle Through Free Agency

Upgrading Carolina's Left Tackle Through Free Agency

This isn’t the best year to be shopping for a left tackle, but at the same time, finding an upgrade over Byron Bell may not be that hard. Here’s a breakdown of Carolina’s best left-tackle options on the FA market and a look at the best options to get the line where Carolina need to become a top level team.

Did Dave Gettleman Hint That Carolina Could Go After Jason Pierre-Paul?

Did Dave Gettleman Hint That Carolina Could Go After Jason Pierre-Paul?

Carolina Panthers General Manager David Gettleman doesn’t address the media often, but when he does, it’s guaranteed to be entertaining, revealing, and always punctuated by fun Yiddish sayings.  I know, “it’s mashugana,” for a general manager to say what he means and mean what he says.

No Nightmares On Mint Street

No Nightmares On Mint Street

We have all seen or heard of the movie Nightmare On Elm Street. Freddy Krueger is an evil character that preys on people in their dreams. He turns sweet dreams, into nightmares. That is exactly what the Arizona Cardinals did to Jake Delhomme, and the Carolina Panthers in the 2008 NFC Divisional Playoffs.

Carolina Panthers: Fantasy Football Projections Week 16

Well this is a sad time for a lot of you, and a happy time for some of you. You might be sad because fantasy football is coming to an end, and that means that you will have to actually work at work. You might also be sad because your team did horrible this season. You might be happy because you are either playing in your league's championship game, or you already won. Congratulations if you made it this far! Getting to the championship and winning is a great accomplishment. Repeating next season, is even tougher.

The Carolina Panthers are currently on a two game winning streak, and they still have a chance to win the NFC South. This is crazy, because two weeks ago they were getting a top five draft pick. Before the Panthers winning streak, their two main weaknesses were the defense, and the offensive line. But this has changed over the past two games. Which Panthers team will show up this week..... Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde?

My Week 16 Projections:

  • *Cam Newton: 21 pts (225 passing yards 2 touchdowns, 40 rushing yards)

  • Derek Anderson: 17 pts (240 passing Yards 2 touchdowns)

  • Greg Olsen: 14 pts (80 receiving yards, 1 touchdown)

  • Kelvin Benjamin: 13 pts (75 receiving yards, 1 touchdown)

  • Jonathan Stewart: 13 pts (75 rushing yards, 1 touchdown)

  • Philly Brown: 9 pts (35 receiving yards, 1 touchdown)

  • Panthers Defense: 8 pts

  • Jerricho Cotchery: 4 pts (45 receiving yards)

My Week 16 Recommendations:

  • Must Starts: Kelvin Benjamin, Jonathan Stewart, and Greg Olsen

  • 50/50 Start: Panthers Defense, Derek Anderson or Cam Newton

  • Sit: Philly Brown, and Jerricho Cotchery

The Cleveland Browns are trending downwards, and are now relying on “Johnny Football” to save their season. The Browns are currently on a three game losing streak, and are 7-7. Johnny Football made his first start, and had the worst game of his career. Who is going to show up against the Carolina Panthers?

The Carolina Panthers are going to have their hands full this week with “Johnny Football,” Josh Gordon, and the Browns defense. Both teams are hungry, but I think the Panthers are hungrier. Manziel needs to be worried, because “it's feedin time!” I would not play either quarterback this week. Cam is not 100% and you don't know what to expect from DA every week. Greg Olsen is a top five fantasy tight end, and Kelvin Benjamin is always a must start. Jonathan Stewart has turned into a decent flex play option, and a possible RB2. He is the number one running back for the Panthers, and the Browns have one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL. Brown and Cotchery should remain on your bench. Panthers defense could be a good play if Manziel continues to struggle.

Will “Johnny Football” be in the end zone or on the ground more this week?

Carolina Panthers: Fantasy Football Projections Week 15

Carolina Panthers: Fantasy Football Projections Week 15

Another week of fantasy football playoffs down the drain, and I finally lost. No thanks to Peyton Manning and his 2 fantasy points. Both of my running backs were injured this past week, so I had to start Doug "Waste of a Pick" Martin, and Chris "Disappearing Act" Johnson. They got me a combined total of 8 fantasy points. As the fantasy season continues it is harder to win games, because of all the injuries. Could you imagine if the league increased the length of the season? If you are dealing with injuries you need to pay attention to who is going to be the new starter, and cross your fingers that someone else wont pick them up on the waiver wire.

Carolina Panthers: Fantasy Football Projections Week 14

Carolina Panthers: Fantasy Football Projections Week 14

I hope that you made it past the first round of your fantasy football playoffs. I squeaked by with a two point victory! My team struggled because Peyton Manning decided to take the week off, and Andre Ellington got hurt again. This is what happens when the season is almost over and the playoffs are on the way. This is a big problem with fantasy football. If you are the commissioner you need to start the playoffs earlier to make sure that your team is healthier, and giving 100% effort.

Carolina Panthers: Fantasy Football Projections Week 13

Did you make the playoffs in your league? If so, congratulations! Making the playoffs isn’t easy with all of the injuries, suspensions, and bye weeks. You worked hard to get to this point, so don’t slip up now! Start players who are sure things, and trust your gut when you’re picking between two players.

The Carolina Panthers were going downhill real fast, so their bye week was a much needed breather. The Panthers have the opportunity to go into Minnesota and beat the 4-7 Vikings. Adrian Peterson is out for the season, so that’s one less thing to worry about. Who should you start this week?

My Week 13 Projections:

  • Cam Newton: 22 pts (215 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, 25 rushing yards)
  • Kelvin Benjamin: 15 pts (92 yards, 1 touchdown)
  • Greg Olsen: 12 pts (60 yards, 1 touchdown)
  • Philly brown: 9 pts (30 yards, 1 touchdown)
  • Jonathan Stewart: 9 pts (35 rushing yards, 1 touchdown)
  • Jerricho Cotchery: 6 pts (60 yards)
  • DeAngelo Williams: 5 pts (53 rushing yards)
  • Panthers Defense: 4 pts

My Week 13 Recommendations:

Must Start: Kelvin Benjamin and Greg Olsen

Sit: Cam Newton, DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, and Jerricho Cotchery

Week 13 Sleepers: Panthers Defense, Philly Brown

The Minnesota Vikings are struggling to win like the Carolina Panthers. The Vikings best game of the season was a 34-6 victory over the St. Louis Rams, and their worst game was a 42-10 loss against the Green Bay Packers. The Vikings won against the Rams with Adrian Peterson, but since his suspension they have only beat teams that are under .500.

If you want a good chance at winning your matchup, you should start Greg Olsen and Kelvin Benjamin. If they are sitting on your bench, you might be missing out on some quality points. Benjamin and Olsen get a lot of targets, and should have more opportunities to score against the Vikings. Cam Newton has the potential to have a break out game, but he is not a sure thing yet. You don’t want to risk it at this point. If you need to fill your flex position, I would pick up Philly Brown. Brown is a deep threat and might be used like Ted Ginn Jr. If the Panthers defense can put pressure on Teddy Bridgewater, the rookie will make some mistakes. Do NOT start the running backs. Good luck!

What is your playoff seed?
