C3 Carolina Panthers newsfeed brings the latest Panthers news and opinions from the fan perspective.
Recently, I wrote a piece on the Georgia-Carolina Connection that looked at University of Georgia alum who have made their way onto the Carolina Panthers roster. My buddy Steve Danner immediately commented that the Bulldog contribution was thankfully greater than the Southern California Trojan’s. This got me wondering, who has come from USC to Carolina and what have they done?

Ron Rivera seems to be playing the hard to impressive father role, remarking he wants one of these guys to step into the starting role, but right now it looks like the position will be manned by committee. He even moved Big Money Charles Johnson over to the right side to show the guys he was willing to shake things up. Right now it's any guys job to win, or in Frank Alexander's case--burn.

Yesterday, news broke that Carolina was close to finalizing a long-term deal with Cam Newton. The numbers you will hear will be big, eclipsing more than 100 million total value of the contract. Don't pay one iota to the mega numbers that come out in the initial reports.

The Valdosta St. Blazer never saw the field, spending his two season on injured reserve. The big man from a little school must have not demonstrated enough improvement either physically or simply the coaching staff didn't think he could be caught up on all the missed time to warrant a spot on the 90-man roster.

Yesterday, the Texans parted with DJ Swearinger after two years. The former USC gamecock, according to NFL.com, after he struggled mightily in his 22 starts in Houston. Ranked in the bottom tier of safeties in both 2013 and 2013, 71 out of 86 and 78 out of 87 respectively.

“I can’t say enough about this kid,” wide-receiver coach Ricky Proehl raved about Steven Hill on Bustin Loose with Frank Garcia and Mark Yarboro. Yarbs (Yarboro) brought up Hill with the reservation most Panthers media does when addressing the enigmatic former 2nd round pick who many view as a hopeless bust.
Proehl thinks otherwise, stating “he did nothing but work his tail off….I can’t wait to get my hands on him this spring and in the offseason so as to showcase what he can do. This will be a big spring for him.”

Kony Ealy turned it on late in the season after a slow start to his rookie season. With Greg Hardy out for his shenanigans, Ealy assumed a larger role in the defense than initially planned. It was an adjustment, epitomized in the criticism he received from Ron Rivera during training camp and Cam Newton's tough love as the offense faced down Ealy and the defense in the redzone in a team scrimmage.
Panthers kicker, Graham Gano, put out some impressive pictures of his brother’s most recent hunting and fishing expeditions. This dude takes down big game.
