Panthers Taking the Skepticism Personally

Panthers Taking the Skepticism Personally

It’s unclear what Charles Johnson’s initial remarks were, but it didn’t seem that he was interested in the Romo injury as much as he was about highlighting Carolina’s punishing pass-rush against the so-called best line in the league. Johnson has since deleted the tweet. The actual tweet is not all that important. It’s his outspokenness about the game that is telling.

Carolina didn’t take this game lightly. No, they took this game personally. There’s a chip on this team’s shoulder, and although Norman has been the mouthpiece so far, there’s an aura around this team that suggests they are fed up with being overlooked. For so long they have been able to shrug this off, believing that their play on the field would speak for itself. 10-0 wasn’t enough though. 11-0 likely won’t be either.  Carolina may just have run the table on these fools and hoist the Lombardi to prove their point in the end.

Big Plays and Big Penalties the Story of Carolina's Win Over Saints

Big Plays and Big Penalties the Story of Carolina's Win Over Saints

Carolina’s defense really couldn’t have played much worse today. With Drew Brees out and Luke McCown behind one of the league’s worst offensive line, most thought the defense would be the hero’s this week. Certainly, few thought that it would be the offense and big plays downfield would be the story of the game.

Saints at Panthers Will Reveal More Than Some Want

Saints at Panthers Will Reveal More Than Some Want

After week two, we once again realized how little everyone knows about how the 2015 season will pan out.  The the experts told us for months who would be great and which teams shouldn’t bother lacing up the cleats and playing the games.  The Colts and Broncos would be near unstoppable in the AFC.  The Seahawks and Eagles would either shut teams down or blow them out.

Panthers Look to Jump-Start Pass Rush Against Struggling Saints Offensive Line

Panthers Look to Jump-Start Pass Rush Against Struggling Saints Offensive Line

If there’s been one kink in Carolina’s defensive armor, it’s been the lack of a consistent pass rush. Graded -1.3 and ranked #23 by ProFootballFocus, the Panthers pass rush hasn’t produced results.  Kawaan Short and, rotational end, Mario Addison have been the lone bright spots, but Carolina’s starting defensive ends haven’t generated much. Charles Johnson was invisible as a rusher against Houston, and Kony Ealy may still be drawing penalty flags.

Has Wegher Beat Out Whittaker?

Brandon Wegher has beat out Fozzie Whitaker this preseason.  It’s hard to debate. On the field, Wegher has produced. Fozzie has looked OK at times, but Wegher has looked good every time.

So how do you make a decision like this?  Wegher has capitalized on the opportunities given. It hasn’t been in bursts either. Wegher has made his presence known throughout all four game. Wegher it was the two fourth quarter comeback drives or just sound fundamentals in the final preseason match against the Steelers, Wegher has got it done.

Could the Panthers Grab Both Rookie of the Year Awards in 2015?

Could the Panthers Grab Both Rookie of the Year Awards in 2015?

It’s only happened once in history, and I even then it seems like one time too many.  In 1967, Detroit Lions rookies Mel Farr (RB) and Lem Barney (CB) swept the Rookie of the Year awards. Landing one rookie of the year is impressive enough, but stealing both is the literal heist of the century. Could Carolina be the 2nd team in NFL history to sweep the Rookie of the Year awards?

Randy Moss, he hasn’t played since 2012 and he hasn’t produced since 2009.  Within the past week, however, rumblings that Moss wanted to return to the NFL at 38 years old began to surface. No Practice Squad for Brandon Wegher, Damiere Byrd, or Jordan Todman

No Practice Squad for Brandon Wegher, Damiere Byrd, or Jordan Todman

Just two weeks ago, neither Brandon Wegher nor Damiere Byrd had an inside shot at making the Panthers 53-man roster.  Jordan Todman wasn’t a lock either.  Fozzie Whitaker looked in solid control of the 3rd down back spot, and Corey Brown had edged himself in as a starter.
After two 4th quarter preseason comeback wins where Wegher, Byrd, and Todman played notable roles, these guys are on the fast track to making the 53-man roster.

A Night Where Nothing Went Right, and Everything Seemed to Go Wrong Except the End

A Night Where Nothing Went Right, and Everything Seemed to Go Wrong Except the End

The Panthers were off Saturday night against against the Miami Dolphins. You could see it right away when Luke Kuechly missed a routine tackle during Miami's opening drive. The Panthers were off. The single missed tackle alone didn’t indicate how bad it would be, but it sure did intimate that something was wrong.

Kony Ealy Corrects ESPN's David Newton

We've all wondered how much the players pay attention to the noise.  Social media's integration into our daily lives has given us a little insight on the matter, as well as, simply amplifying the noise.  Some guys embrace social media interaction with all it's noise and sometime work to suppress it.  Rarely does this happen over the long-term without making an error or ultimately drowning in the noise that acknowledging it only amplifies.  Many choice to avoid the headache, despite the irrationality of the noise.
