Cornerback Options for Panthers: Delvin Breaux

Panthers are dangerously thin at cornerback; could former Saint Delvin Breaux be an option?

The botched deal with Bashaud Breeland left the Panthers with an enormous hole at cornerback. After a down year in the secondary, Carolina cannot afford to go into the season without upgrading their backend.

A Look at How David Gettleman Assembles the Roster

A Look at How David Gettleman Assembles the Roster

Ever since becoming the General Manager of the Panthers, David Gettleman has assembled competitive rosters each year. His work reached the NFL’s pinnacle with a Super Bowl berth, and ultimate loss. This year he will try to get his team back to the promised land, and come out with a victory. The table below shows how Gettleman has assembled his roster in each of his three seasons as GM. You can see the patterns of how many players he usually keeps per position, and my input on who may fill these spots come final roster cuts.

Five NFL Draft Predictions for the Carolina Panthers

Five NFL Draft Predictions for the Carolina Panthers

1. The Panthers will bring in three or more corners during the draft and after.

The departure of Josh Norman leaves an already thin cornerback corp in a scary position. If the NFL season were to open today the starters on the outside would consist of Robert McClain and Bené Benwikere; Brandon Boykin would lock down the slot. Benwikere played well on the outside during his rookie season, but a full season away from the position and a late season broken leg puts him in a precarious situation.

A Panther Prospect: Javon Hargrave

A Panther Prospect: Javon Hargrave

Over the past few years most Panther fans have already found themselves in Draft/Free Agency mode at this point in the NFL Season. However, there is no time too early to start looking at college prospects that may fit Gettleman’s mold. Someone that may strike the Panthers’ eye is South Carolina State defensive tackle Javon Hargrave. Hargrave is a late riser in the scouting process, but has been rising up draft boards after a strong showing at the Shrine Game.

Feel free to print a copy and play along as the Panthers take the field Sunday against the Falcons. If you happen to hit Bingo, or get really close, share your results with me on Twitter @KenjonVander or with other members of the Cat Chronicles staff.

Causes Of The ACL Injuries Among NFL Players

Causes Of The ACL Injuries Among NFL Players

ligaments: the anterior and posterior. These bands of muscle are tasked in keeping the tibia from slipping forwards or backwards, and are crossed like the letter “X” to assure this happens. Unfortunately, like any part of the body, these ligaments are prone to injury; the anterior is the most commonly injured, and the harder of the two to recover from. Severe injury to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament has slowly become an epidemic in the sporting world, particularly in the National Football League; the NFL has seen an increase in ACL injuries over recent years, and there are several possible causes to blame for the uptick: rule changes, preseason training, and genetics.

Midway Report: How the Wide Receivers are Faring

Midway Report: How the Wide Receivers are Faring

It is crazy to think that a team with Ted Ginn and Philly Brown as starting receivers is in the top five of the NFL at scoring offense. The Panthers have arguably the most effective ground game in the league, and receivers that make just enough plays to put them in scoring position. Carolina is 8-0 for the first time in team history, and is doing it without the likes of Steve Smith, Muhsin Muhammed, and Kelvin Benjamin. Here are some statistics to show how the Panthers’ receiving corp has been performing, and how their current success would project over the entire season.
