Aside from Proehl citing the desire to be more available to his family, we don't know much about what is going on. Comments from Austin Proehl suggest that this was a move based truly motivated by his desire to help his son's development in his senior season at UNC. When asked by David Newton about his father's decision, Austin Proehl stated, "To step away from his guys, something he loves doing to be with us, it just shows what kind of man he is. For me, I couldn't be more proud to call him my dad."
This is a big blow for the Panthers staff. Proehl has been viewed by most as the wide-receiver whisperer. Replacing Proehl, who had links to the organization as a player and success as a coach and player, will be difficult.
