When asked about the potential for renegotiating his contract with Carolina on Adam Schefter’s "Know Them from Adam" podcast, the blonde hair, dreamy blue-eyed Greg Olsen reminded us that he still has some G-Reg from the 7th Floor Crew in him. Olsen’s response was realistic but firm, stating “I really don’t know. It is something we would obviously love and that we believe on our end we have a lot of ground to stand on...hopefully they feel the same way about my standing within the organization and as a leader as we do.”

Olsen knows his stock is high and that he probably has the most leverage he will have with Carolina right now. “I’ve been very fortunate that I have stayed relatively healthy, he stated. “No major surgeries, but that could change this year,” he reminded. Schefter asked him if he would consider holding out of if Carolina wasn’t interested in dealing, and Olsen didn’t rule it out. “I think it is early right now. As the summer goes on and we get some feedback from the organization on how they feel, we will make the best decision we can.” “I’d be lying,” he admitted, “if I didn’t say that we feel very strongly where we should be among that totem pole of top tight-ends.”

Olsen, who has two contract years left, is the league’s 7th highest paid tight end but is quick to point out he’s the league’s most consistent and productive tight-end too. “If go back and just look at not just the statistics, but consistency and durability, there’s nobody that can match up and has done what I have done,” he told Schefter.

He’s right in stating “that many other tight-ends may get more recognition and acclaim…but that stats speak for themselves.” Olsen has had three consecutive 1000 yd receiving seasons and, heading into his 11th season, he plans on racking up some more in hopes of playing five or six more seasons. Schefter highlighted Olsen’s durability by pointing out that he has started every game since 2012 and has played more snaps than any pass-catcher in the league, ahead of Jason Witten and Larry Fitzgerald.  He’s been Newton’s top target and it doesn’t look like that will be changing anytime soon.

Olsen was direct in stating that he has a great relationship with the team, owner Jerry Richardson, and General Manager Dave Gettleman. “This is not a negative environment. I’ve gone to all the OTAs, to all the mini-camps. This is not a toxic environment, he stated.  This is “strictly business should reflect productivity,” he described.

Whether or not contract negotiations go well with Carolina will remain to be seen. There’s been a history of things turning south quickly with Gettleman, who doesn’t like to be pressured to deal. He’s not oblivious to value either, however. Gettleman’s smooth dealings with Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly show he knows where his bread is buttered. This may not be as easy of a sell to Gettleman still. Olsen does have two years left on his contract and, at 32 years old, he only has but so many years left in him. If a deal is going to get done, Greg Olsen knows it needs to happen sooner than later or else he will be the one getting "FUC^ed on the 7th flo."
