Zay Jones had for the most part been overlooked going into the post season despite record shattering numbers for both most career receptions (399) in NCAA history and most receptions in a single season (158) in NCAA history.  

A Biletnikof award finalists for the nations top receiver, Jones critics pointed towards a "number inflating" ECU offense as the catalyst, but he has since left the doubters scrambling for more. 

Jones took part in this years Senior Bowl and has took NFL scouts by storm. An impressive Senior Bowl practice week followed by a impressive performance in the Senior Bowl on 6 catches for 68 yards and one touchdown. He appeared to have an early sensational touchdown grab that was voided by no replay challenges, but got the point across anyway. Scouts have been patiently waiting to see him test in the combine and he did just that on Saturday, again leaving them with little doubt and him fighting for a first round pick.

Perhaps the biggest number here was his impressive 40 time. NFL draft analyst Mike Mayock was saying as Jones approached to run that "a low 4.5 would be great for him." Jones then ran a 4.45 and Mayock simply said, "Wow, that's really good for him."

His vertical jump was also among the best in the wide receiver group. Jones has certainly only continued to increase his draft stock and could be looking at a late first round or early second round pick now.  

As a local product, Panthers fans would love to add him in the black and blue, but we likely wouldn't see him at our second pick. If we did, he very well could be the best player available depending who is there and who is not.
