Shaq Thompson Out, Remmers Revenge on Hold, and Kalil Hopes to Hold On
The Panthers will be without linebacker Shaq Thompson tomorrow against the Minnesota Vikings. Thompson suffered a foot injury in last week's loss to the New Orleans Saints. Thompson is suffering from plantar fasciitis and will miss his first game of the season after stepping into a much larger role in the defensive scheme.
Thomas Davis who saw a noticeable reduction in snaps because of a hamstring injury expects to be back in full force against the Vikings.
The Panthers expect Ryan Kalil and Greg Olsen to return to action Sunday. Kalil has been sidelined for the past 10 games with a mysterious neck injury, but his return is essential because backup center Tyler Larsen has a foot injury. Greg Olsen also expects to return after missing the last week and a half because of a sore foot after returning from IR. Olsen played just two quarters in his return against the Jets and was kept out last week because of "spongy field-turf."
This isn't going to be the revenge match that many hoped to see because, although Matt Kalil will be playing his former team, Mike Remmers will miss his fifth consecutive game after suffering a concussion and then a back injury. his opportunity to return to Charlotte. It's a shame because Remmers always seemed to peter out about this point in the season when in Carolina. The Panthers defense could have used a friendly matchup because the Viking offense is just rolling.
