Cam Newton Fatigued by Super Bowl Media Requirements
Cam Newton drug his feet as he approached the podium for his 3rd straight day addressing the meeting. "It's not the media pressure, it's the media requirements getting under a lot people's skin," Cam vented. Clearly fatigued by the relentless media sessions over the last few days. "I don't get it. I don't know what you guys want to know," Cam stated after describing his daily routine of meetings, practices, and keeping those pearly whites brilliant.
After struggling with the media his first couple of seasons, Newton worked diligently to improve his presentation in these type of moments. He's not only become more skilled, he's become confident enough to start letting the media in more and more. He's been less guarded. Last week, Cam even made some comments acknowledging racial undertones associated with the black quarterback. He's been somewhat playful throughout these interactions as well, cutting eyes and playing to the cameras with sly grins, but he's reminded us enough that he's well aware of the responsibilities that come with his success as an athlete.
The Super Bowl has elevated this attention, however, to a point that is clearly exhausting Newton. Cam is under the most magnified scrutiny by the media, and this week he's expended a ton of energy as the focus of attention. The novelty is starting to wear off, and you have to wonder is this a sign of growing anxious about Sunday's game?
