Entering the offseason, the Panthers have many needs they need to address. One of them being special teams. All offseason acquisitions so far have been to upgrade the side of the ball the Panthers struggled with the most in the 2014 season. 

Recent signings Jordan Todman, Jason Trusnik, Teddy Williams, Ted Ginn, Kurt Coleman, and Jarret Boykin have all been brought in to bolster a lackluster special teams unit. Even though the players want to contribute at the positions they typically play, special teams will/should be where they all thrive.

I know Panther nation is getting restless with the low-profile moves, but these are more than necessary moves needed. If you don’t think the special teams unit needs an upgrade, you obviously didn’t watch many Panthers games. From the Bersin fumble in the playoffs, to the disaster that was week 13 against the Vikings, an upgrade is desperately needed.

It’s hard to draft rookies and expect them to only compete on special teams, so signing guys who still need a job after a few years in the league is the best way to strengthen the special teams. All guys mentioned above are under contract for minimum type deals with incentive based bonuses. This was a cheap and easy way to fix special teams issue.

Do not expect any big moves through free agency. If you want some excitement from the front office, you will have to wait for April 30th, draft day.
