C3 Mock 2.0 RD 2: Picks 49-56

Due to popular demand we are putting out C3 Mock 2.0.  This version takes into account the first full week of Free Agency and there has been some movement.  Smokewagon is back making his picks along with me in the First Round.  We each give insight as to why we think each one makes sense.  And as usual, we look at some of these selections from a Panthers Fan point of view, but no matter who you are a fan of, take a look and let us know your thoughts.  You can follow me on twitter at @PanthersDrafter and Smokewagon at @SamSslater96

Jamaal Charles will be smiling at this pick.  In 2014, the Chiefs Guards ranked 64th and 78th out of 78 according to PFF.  KC has gone out and traded for Ben Grubbs from the Saints and took Rodney Hudson’s replacement (Cameron Erving) in the first.  Tre Jackson was an All-American, is familiar with Erving, and just makes too much sense here.

With the blockbuster trade of Kiko Alonso for Shady McCoy, there leaves a need for Rex Ryan to bring in a new young LB.  McKinney should be that guy.  He’s a playmaker that plays very well between the Tackles and fills running lanes well.  At 6’4 / 246 lbs he is an ideal size and with a 40-inch vertical leap, he will provide good zone coverage over the middle of a defense.

With both of their Safeties up for Free Agency, I don’t see them keeping both and will have to keep their Secondary strong.  They face Andrew Luck twice a year and can’t afford to have weak Safeties.

The Eagles may not re-sign Bradley Fletcher and they lost Carey Williams to Seattle.  They did bring in Byron Maxwell but need more talent back there.  PJ Williams is a long Corner with good speed and ball skills.  He would be a nice addition to the Eagles secondary.

With 19 Free Agents, the Bengals could go in a number of directions.  Jermaine Gresham will not be back and having the big and talented Funchess drawing defenders will only help the Bengals Offense.

Reggie Bush is not coming back and that leaves only Joique Bell.  Duke Johnson comes in right away and balances that Offense which will open things up for Matt Stafford.

It was a shock to me to see the Cardinal Defensive Backs play so inconsistently.  And Antonio Cromartie will be following his Defensive Coordinator to the Jets.  The Cardinals need talent back there to after addressing their pass-rush in the first round.  And Ronald Darby is a vastly underrated DB that I suspect will go no later than this spot and would be a welcomed addition to the Cards.

The Steelers continue their makeover of their Front Seven.  Goldman is one big dude (6’4 / 336lbs)  If the Steelers don’t take him, look for the Ravens to to replace Ngata.  But that comes into play here too.  Good pick to add heft to the steel curtain.
