C3 Mock 2.0 RD 2: Picks 41-48
Due to popular demand we are putting out C3 Mock 2.0. This version takes into account the first full week of Free Agency and there has been some movement. Smokewagon is back making his picks along with me in the First Round. We each give insight as to why we think each one makes sense. And as usual, we look at some of these selections from a Panthers Fan point of view, but no matter who you are a fan of, take a look and let us know your thoughts. Mel Mayock's Picks
With JoLonn Dunbar and Alec Ogletree both finishing with negative grades from PFF for the year, the talented Shaq Thompson fills a huge need and is probably the best player left on the board too. Playing in the NFC West, you’d better have good linebackers to chased down and to contain mobile QBs.
I’m going to defer to our Falcon friend and expert @ScottCarasik who says the Falcons would prefer Anthony over my last week’s selection of Paul Dawson. I’m no Falcon expert so I defer to him. If you are a Falcons fan, give him a follow. But this Clemson standout could look good in Quinn’s new system. Just know that he will suck anytime he plays at BOA stadium.
With Josh Gordon’s year gone in a puff of smoke again, the hometown, Devin Smith, gets the nod. The Browns need some speed and playmakers. Devin Smith provides both. And being from in state doesn’t hurt the selection either.
The Saints desperately need to upgrade their Secondary. They did bring in Brandon Brower but need more help to keep up with the big WRs in the NFC South. And we all know Benjamin is uncoverable by any Saint. Okay, I only say that in jest and to see who comments on it. Alex Carter is a big and smart Corner that will start Day 1.
The Vikings really struggled in pass protection and especially up the middle. Former Panther draft-pick, Joe Berger, was their highest rated Guard and he was middle of the road. At 6’3/ 323 lbs., this ACC Hog-Mollie will be a great addition to protect Bridgewater.
he 49ers signed Torrey Smith to a very lucrative contract, but will also be losing MIchael Crabtree and have already parted ways with Stevie Johnson. They have to add playmakers to help out Kapernick. Agholor is a polished route-runner with good hands and surprising speed. I look for this to be a high value pick for the rebuilding 49ers.
The Dolphins have been cutting WRs left and right and you know they will have to target a WR with this pick. Rashad Greene is the best option on the board. He runs fantastic routes, and has dependable hands. He also tracks deep balls very well which will compliment Ryan Tannehill’s strengths. If Mike Wallace is released, Phillip Dorsett could be in play with this pick as well.
The window is starting to close on Philip Rivers’ career (reports are this could be his last) and he needs some talent at the WR spot. Yes they signed Stevie Johnson, but that is only a replacement for the loss of Eddie Royal. They need more talent. Round One they went RB, now they look to get Strong at the WR spot.
